Family, Faith & Freedom

For many Americans, our faith isn’t just something we practice, it is part of who we are and part of our heritage as a nation. Every American should be free to live and work according to their beliefs without fear of punishment from the government.

Freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. The Constitution protects the free exercise of religion—it does not mandate that faith be scrubbed from the public square or relegated to our homes or places of worship.  Religious freedom is a fundamental human right with deep roots in our Nation’s history (Read H.Con.Res. 108).

Founder and Co-Chairman of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, a bipartisan group of lawmakers dedicated to the idea that the free exercise of religion is a fundamental human right that is essential to a free society, free from government coercion (Read more, here).

Life is precious and deserves to be protected. I strongly believe that life is sacred and begins at conception. Here’s where I stand:
  • No federal funding for abortion. Period (Read H.R. 7).
  • Defund Planned Parenthood. Taxpayer dollars should not be funneled to an organization so many Americans find morally reprehensible (Read H.R. 3762, H.R. 3134, H.R.3197, and H.R. 217).
  • Require the same degree of care to preserve the baby’s life and health to be given to a baby who survives an abortion that would be given to any other child born at that gestational age (Read H.R. 3504).

Supporting traditional marriage.
Every American should remain free from being targeted by the government because of their belief that marriage is between a man and a woman (Read H.R. 2802).

In God We Still Trust. Our nation’s heritage of faith is rich and worth protecting:

  • Protected “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Defended the National Day of Prayer and the National Motto (Read H.Con.Res.13, H.Res. 547).
  • Fought for the inclusion of our nation’s spiritual heritage, including our motto “In God We Trust,” in the Capitol Visitors Center.

Defending religious freedom for military chaplains and servicemembers. Our servicemembers should be able to exercise the same freedoms they fight to protect. That’s why I’ve supported reinforcing conscience protections for our military.

Every child in foster care deserves a permanent and loving family. We need to encourage Americans to consider the adoption of children in foster care, and to promote the availability of adoption information in family planning centers (Read H.R. 3428).

Named a “True Blue” Member of Congress by the Family Research Council for my commitment to family, faith, and freedom issues in America.
