The historic significance and high visibility of the museum are attracting an unprecedented number of local, national, and international visitors. Therefore, a free Timed Pass is necessary for admission to the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Things You Need to Know
Once you order your Timed Pass, you will receive a confirmation email. The email is NOT the Timed Pass. You must download or print the pass. Before entering the museum, you will present your Timed Pass 1) as a printed paper copy, 2) on your cell phone screen or 3) as a screenshot on your mobile device.
• Passes for 2016 are no longer available.
• Six (6) passes are available per order. Every visitor including infants needs a Timed Pass.
• Arrive 15 minutes early, you will not be admitted before the time on your pass.
• This is not a pass for a tour, your visit to the museum will be self-guided.
• Please be prepared for large crowds and extended wait times.
• While we will do our best to honor the scheduled time on your passes, your actual entry time is subject to building capacity and safety.
• Each Timed Pass has a unique entry code and can only be used once.

Same Day In Person: Visitors may obtain 4 free Time Passes in person, at the museum on the same day of your visit. A limited number of passes are distributed daily on a first come-first serve basis by the Visitor Services Staff beginning at 9:15 am.
Nonprofit Groups: School, student, religious and community-based organizations of 10 or more may obtain free advance Timed Passes. It is recommended groups provide at least one adult chaperone for every 5 students under the age of 18.
