Udall, Heinrich Urge The Department Of Defense To Restore National Guard Bonuses
WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich are urging U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter to restore bonuses and benefits incorrectly awarded to National Guard soldiers through no fault of their own. The Department has sought to recoup the wrongly awarded benefits after an audit found that, due to faulty paperwork, mistakes by recruiters, and at least one case of criminal fraud, soldiers who did not qualify for the bonuses had received them.

In a hearing of the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, Senator Tom Udall highlighted dangerous and deceptive claims by the sports equipment maker "Shock Doctor," which says its mouth guards protect against brain concussions. Udall said such practices put players at unnecessary risk and urged the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to step in and prevent Shock Doctor and other sports equipment manufacturers from marketing their products using false claims about safety.
In a speech on the Senate floor, Senator Tom Udall laid out his rules reform proposal to address the broken judicial confirmation process, which has been spotlighted by Judge Merrick Garland's failed nomination for the vacant seat on the Supreme Court.
