Congressman Fleming to Highlight Importance of Education and Geography

Congressman John Fleming M.D. will visit third graders at the Northwestern State University Elementary Lab School for an interactive tour of the National Geographic Giant Traveling Map of North America on Thursday May 19, 2011 from 9:00am – 10:00am CST. Hosted by Northwestern State University Elementary Lab School, the National Geographic Traveling giant map measures 35 feet by 26 feet offering students an interactive multi-faceted approach to learning and studying geography. Congressman Fleming will be joined by Dr. Lisa Abney, Northwestern State University Vice President and Provost, and Dr. Paul Nagel, Northwestern State University Asst. Professor and coordinator for the Louisiana Geography Education Alliance.

"I cannot stress enough the importance of educating our future leaders," Said Congressman Fleming. "The Northwestern State University Elementary Lab School is integral in making this happen. By hosting the National Geographic Giant Traveling Map of North America, students can interactively learn about geography through content and activities."

Congressman Fleming added, "I am excited to participate in this interactive experience with students at the NSU Elementary Lab School and I'm committed to keeping the student as the top priority in education."
