Committees

Congressman Kline is Chairman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, and serves on the House Armed Services Committee:
  • The Committee on Education and the Workforce: In 2010, Congressman Kline was chosen by his peers to serve as the Chairman of the Education and the Workforce Committee. The Education and the Workforce Committee has a dual mission: empowering parents and teachers to provide our students with the best education possible, and giving American workers access to the tools and protections they need to meet the challenges and opportunities of the new economy. Prior to becoming the ranking Republican on the Education and the Workforce Committee in 2009, Congressman Kline served as the ranking Republican member on the Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee (HELP), which is responsible for all matters associated with the relationships between employers and employees, including retirement security and pension, health, and other employee benefits.
  • The Armed Services Committee: The Armed Services Committee retains exclusive jurisdiction for: defense policy generally, ongoing military operations, the organization and reform of the Department of Defense and Department of Energy, counter-drug programs, acquisition and industrial base policy, technology transfer and export controls, joint interoperability, the Cooperative Threat Reduction program, and Department of Energy nonproliferation programs. Armed Services Subcommittees:
    • Emerging Threats and Capabilities: Issues under the jurisdiction of this subcommittee include DOD counter proliferation and counter terrorism programs and initiatives. In addition, the subcommittee will be responsible for Special Operations Forces, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, information technology policy and programs, force protection policy and oversight, and related intelligence support.

    • ​Military Personnel: Issues under the jurisdiction of this subcommittee include military personnel policy, reserve component integration and employment issues, military health care, military education, and POW/MIA.​
