DOVER, Del. — On Monday, May 9, 2016, U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons, and U.S. Representative John Carney (all D-DE) will host a Grant Fair and Workshop from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the MLK Student Center on the campus of Delaware State University. The Congressional Delegation organized this event to help Delawareans better understand the process for finding and securing grant opportunities, in addition to putting them in contact with funders from state and federal agencies, private businesses, and the non-profit community.
Workshops will also be offered during the day focusing on grant writing, the grant evaluation process, and best practices to secure funding. These include:
· An overview of Grants.gov, Ed Calimag, Grants.gov, Senior Program Advisor
· Grant Writing 101, Patrick Patterson, National Grant Writing Training Expert
· Grant Writing Best Practices, Bill McGowan, USDA State Director for Maryland and Delaware
The fair and workshops are free for participants. Seating is limited for the workshops, so please RSVP to Congressman Carney’s office at (302) 691-7333 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you plan to attend.
"The workshop is a one-stop shop for comprehensive information on the federal grant process to make applicants the most competitive they can be," said Sen. Carper. "The delegation offices are also available year-round to help our organizations and local governments identify and apply for federal funding that is essential to achieving their mission and serving their communities."
“The grants fair is a key component for Delaware non-profit and community organizations to come together under one roof, exchange ideas, develop relationships and sharpen skills to gain a better understanding of the federal grant process,” said Sen. Coons. “The small business owners, entrepreneurs and non-profits will hear from experts and grantors who will help them explain the sometimes complex process and will put them on the right path to gaining federal funding for their organizations.”
“The grant fair was about helping Delawareans who are doing great work in our community access the resources and support they need to be successful,” said Congressman Carney. “Earning funding from a private foundation or public agency can be both competitive and complicated. I’m hopeful that the lessons shared and connections made at this event will result in more grants awarded to deserving Delaware organizations.”
Dr. Harry L. Williams, president of Delaware State University, said that this is just another example of the teamwork of the Delaware Congressional Delegation as they continually strive for the success and prosperity of the residents of the First State.
“As our faculty here at Delaware State University has learned, there is a lot that goes into successful federal grant writing,” said Dr. Williams. “And just as this University has been able to obtain millions of dollars in federal grants, this unique opportunity will provide others with valuable information and insight that could bring more federal dollars into Delaware.”
Funders from state and federal governments, private foundations, and non-profit agencies will be present at the fair. Confirmed participants include: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Discover Bank, U.S. Small Business Administration, Faith Based Nonprofit Resource Center, U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), WSFS Bank, M&T Bank, Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh, Department of Health and Human Services/Health Resources and Services Administration, Regulation Solutions, Inc., Delaware Division of the Arts, Environmental Protection Agency, Longwood Foundation, U.S. Department Of Agriculture, FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance, and FEMA Fire Grants.
