MILLSBORO, Del. — This morning, Congressman John Carney (D-DE) hosted the second of three Veterans Office Hours he will hold this April. The event, held at the Millsboro American Legion Post #28, connected veterans with experts providing medical and benefit claims assistance, as well as other supportive services. Over 100 people attended the Office Hours and had the chance to speak directly with Congressman Carney, representatives from the Wilmington VA Medical Center and Veterans Benefits Administration, and the many other organizations present.

“Today’s event was a great opportunity for veterans in Sussex County to voice their concerns and get help accessing the benefits and services that they deserve. I was able to speak individually with many of those in attendance, which provided me with further insight into the challenges facing veterans in our state,” said Congressman Carney. “While we have more work to do to better serve our veterans, I am glad so many were able to get the answers and assistance they needed. Thank you to the organizations and agencies who participated today and the American Legion for hosting us.”

"I've already seen several veterans get the solutions they were looking for just from attending these office hours,” said Larence Kirby, Executive Director of the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs. “This event helps us reach out to veterans who may not know about our services or other resources available to them in Delaware. I'm grateful for the Congressman's initiative in hosting these events, and I look forward to continuing this progress in serving our veterans."

Congressman Carney, on behalf of Delaware’s congressional delegation, will host the third and final Veterans Office Hours event Monday, April 25th at the National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in New Castle from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Participants in today’s event included representatives from the: Wilmington VA Medical Center, Veterans Benefits Administration, American Legion, Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Vietnam Veterans of America, Delaware Division of Services for the Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities, Delaware Division of Social Services, Delaware State University, Delaware Technical & Community College, Food Bank of Delaware, $tand By Me, Wesley College, and Wilmington University.
