During the Civil Rights Movement, John Lewis was Chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and was a keynote speaker at the historic March on Washington in August 1963.  On March 7, 1965 Lewis led a march with over 600 protestors across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. This day became known as ‘Bloody Sunday,’ due to the violent brutality Mr. Lewis and the marchers faced, and its impact led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act. Rep. Lewis has served in Congress since 1987 and will join Congressman Carney and Senator Coons in Delaware on March 4 for a town hall discussion, titled, "50 Years After Selma: Civil Rights in America."
