WILMINGTON — Today, Congressman John Carney announced his nominations for the United States Air Force Academy, the United States Naval Academy, the United States Military Academy, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Each year, Congressman Carney nominates Delaware students who have demonstrated excellence, leadership, and a passion for service.

“Today, I have the tremendous honor of nominating some of the most impressive students in our state for the U.S. Service Academies,” said Congressman Carney.  “These young men and women represent future Delaware leaders who have already made strong commitments to community service and academic excellence. They have each shown leadership ability and a passion for giving back to our community.  I’m inspired by their strong sense of duty and dedication to serving our country, and I have no doubt that they will make Delaware very proud.”

In order to be granted admission, an applicant must meet all eligibility requirements and receive a nomination from a Member of Congress, the Vice President, or the Secretary of the Air Force, Army, or Navy.  Congressman Carney was advised in the nominating process by a committee of educators, former and current members of the military, and community leaders.  After a student is nominated, each academy will then evaluate the student based on their own admissions process and determine whether or not the student is accepted.

“I also want to thank my nominating committee for their hard work, generosity, and assistance with this process,” said Congressman Carney. “Their commitment and expertise was once again crucial in putting together a slate of truly talented nominees.”
