WILMINGTON, Del. — Congressman John Carney issued the following statement today in recognition of Veterans Day.  Delaware is home to more than 77,000 veterans.  Today, Congressman Carney will honor both veterans and active-duty service members at events throughout the state.

“Veterans Day is when we as a nation honor our veterans for their service.  We say thank you to those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and security.

It’s also a time to remember what a great debt we owe to these men and women.  I am reminded of Vice President Biden’s words that our nation’s most solemn obligation is to prepare and equip those we send into harm’s way, and to care for them when they come home.

That obligation cannot be fulfilled through words alone.  From combatting homelessness to making sure each veteran has access to world class healthcare, we must continue working to ensure that veterans get the care and support they have earned.  That’s a responsibility I try to take on every day as I represent Delaware in the U.S. House of Representatives.

I hope you’ll take a moment today to thank a veteran for putting the needs of our country ahead of self, and for the sacrifices they’ve made in service to our nation.”
