WASHINGTON — Congressman Carney today released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision regarding marriage equality:

“At its core, marriage is about love and commitment, and the Supreme Court affirmed that today. I can't think of anything more basic -- or more important to the pursuit of happiness -- than having the right to marry the person you love. This fundamental joy has been denied to couples across the country for too long. Today’s decision rights that wrong.

It’s a victory for that very American principle -- that we are all equal under the law. Our work for that cause isn’t done. But today is a day for celebration, especially for all those who have worked toward this end for decades.”
