Seniors

Our government must keep its promises to our seniors. That means protecting their peace-of-mind by preserving Social Security and Medicare. It means protecting their access to the doctor they’ve seen for years. And it means making sure they don’t have to worry about leaving their children a tax bill instead of an inheritance.

Protect Social Security and Medicare today, preserve it for tomorrow. Make sure no one raids the Social Security or Medicare funds that so many seniors and disabled Americans depend on (Read H.R.111).

Named ‘Guardian of Seniors’ Rights’ award from the 60 Plus Association.

Prioritize medical research. I introduced bipartisan legislation to prioritize medical research and human clinical trials using stem cells that are ethically obtained and show evidence of providing near-term clinical benefit for human patients (Read H.R 2921).

No government benefits for illegal immigrants. Prevent illegal immigrants from drawing on the hard-earned benefits of others through Social Security or Medicare (Read H.R. 1716).

Improve the FDA drug approval process. The current FDA drug approval process is too bureaucratic. Our medical system will be successful when it’s driven by discovery, not regulations and red tape.

Find new ways to treat diseases. We need to be encouraging the development of new medical treatments, by repurposing existing drugs to address new ailments, conditions, or diseases like epilepsy, cancer, and post-traumatic stress. I introduced a bill to do just that (Read H.R.4287).

Stop identity theft. We need to strengthen identity protections for seniors by removing Social Security Numbers from Medicare cards (Read H.R. 2).

Maintain access to physicians and high-quality care.

  • Make sure seniors can keep their physicians who they know and trust (Read H.R. 2).
  • Make sure seniors are able to maintain access to their local pharmacists who they know and trust (Read H.R. 793).
  • Improve independence and access to care for Medicare beneficiaries in the comfort of their own home (Read H.R. 2196).
  • Repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) established under Obamacare, more commonly referred to as a Medicare rationing board or “death panel”(Read H.R. 1190).
