(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) voted in support of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA) conference report (H.R.3080). The legislation cuts red tape and bureaucracy, streamlines the project-delivery process, and clears the way for important infrastructure projects like the Truckee River Flood Management Project (TRFP).

“Finally, after over a decade of work, Congress was able to come together and craft a water bill that is not only fiscally responsible but also helps to jumpstart important projects in Nevada and across the country. I am pleased that the bill included the Truckee Meadows Flood Risk Management Project so that the Reno/Sparks region can continue to compete at a time when economic development is desperately needed,” said Senator Dean Heller following the vote. “As Nevada continues towards recovery, this project will help alleviate concerns about flooding in the region as businesses look for areas in which to invest and grow.”

The legislation that the Senate voted on today is fully offset by de-authorizing old and stalled projects. It also includes important reforms such as setting hard deadlines on the time and costs of studies and eliminating duplicative analyses.  Senator Heller supported the Truckee project both in the House and Senate, and urged the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to ensure the project’s Chief’s Report was completed in time to be authorized by Congress’ water bill.
