Following what it considered a successful job fair in April in Wilmington, Delaware’s Congressional delegation hosted another job fair May 31 at Del Tech’s Terry Campus in Dover, as they work to meet what they consider their number one priority, which is putting Delawareans back to work. More than 70 employers, ranging from the Secret Service, DEA and FDA to local and state public safety agencies, to private companies, which made up most of the employers. Sen. Chris Coons said that all of those employers were hiring.

Coons, Rep. John Carney and Gov. Jack Markell all agree that the private sector must drive an economic recovery. Carney, who serves on the House Financial Services Committee, says that he’s heard about trillions of dollars that are sitting around, waiting to be invested by companies in new factories and facilities, and hiring new employees. He says that companies aren’t making those investments because they’re uncertain about future demand for their products and services, along with what the future tax and regulatory climate will look like for their industries.

Another Congressional job fair will be held early in the fall in Georgetown.
