Representative Alan Grayson (D-FL09), today made the following statement supporting President Obama’s rejection of the Keystone XL Pipeline:

"I wholeheartedly support President Obama’s rejection of the Keystone XL Pipeline. The President has correctly put the wellbeing of our environment ahead of oil company profits. I agree with the President, and the State Department, that this pipeline “would not serve the national interests of the United States.” As he pointed out, the pipeline would not offer a long-term benefit to our economy, nor would it lower gas prices. It would have, however, been a gift to foreign oil companies at the expense of the environment.

Transporting the dirtiest type of oil through our country, only to benefit foreign oil companies, was always a terrible idea. Worse, Keystone would have been a threat to an aquifer that provides 30% of the nation’s irrigation water. I’m glad that the Administration has decided to end this ill-advised and dangerous project."
