Rep. Grayson Statement in Support of “The Day We Fight Back”

Congressman Backs Nationwide Protest Against NSA Surveillance

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congressman Alan Grayson (FL-09) released the following statement in support of today’s nationwide protest against mass surveillance, known as “The Day We Fight Back”:

“I support “The Day We Fight Back” protest against our government’s mass surveillance programs, and commend those who are participating in these important actions. Today is the day to tell the NSA that we’re fed up – that collecting data on millions of innocent American citizens, without probable cause, is not okay. And we won’t stand for this gross invasion of our right to privacy. It’s time to rein in the NSA. It’s time to tell the spying industrial complex that it must respect the 4th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It’s time to say that we are free human beings, and we’ve had enough. We need real reform to stop the NSA's mass surveillance, and we need it now.”

Grayson, a vocal opponent of the NSA’s domestic surveillance activities, said in a  Floor speech last year that, “[W]e are reaching the point where Uncle Sam is Big Brother.” He has introduced the ‘Big Brother Is Not Watching You Act’ (H.R. 3883), a bill to rein in the NSA, and co-sponsored H.R. 3361, a bill that would curb mass surveillance, reform the FISA court, and improve transparency.

Congressman Alan Grayson represents Florida’s 9th Congressional District, which includes Osceola County, as well as parts of Orange and Polk counties. He previously served as the U.S. Representative for Florida's 8th Congressional District in the 111th Congress.
