Grayson Recovers and Saves More Than $500,000 for Taxpayers, Constituents in 2013
Congressman’s Office Protects Constituent Money, and Helps Secure Social Security Checks, Veterans Benefits, Tax Refunds, and More
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congressman Alan Grayson (FL-09) announced today that his office helped protect and return more than $500,000.00 to Central Floridians in 2013. Grayson’s office was able to recover an estimated $418,185.20 for individuals who were owed Social Security checks, tax refunds, veterans’ benefits, and other payments from the federal government. His office also protected constituents from paying approximately $81,867.97 in mistaken fees, which resulted from paperwork or other filing errors, to various federal agencies.
“My office receives dozens of constituent calls and letters asking for help with a federal agency nearly every day,” Grayson said. “My priority is to assist these constituents in navigating the services provided by the government. When individuals seek assistance from my office, we do everything in our power to help them. Whether a case involves a complicated VA claim, a loved one’s Social Security payment, an immigration issue, or an IRS refund, my staff can often help taxpayers cut through the red tape, and receive the benefits that they deserve.”
Grayson’s office offers a variety of services to constituents struggling with a federal government matter. Recent success stories include:
- Internal Revenue Service: An Orlando constituent, who had trouble obtaining his tax return, contacted Grayson’s office after unsuccessfully attempting to solve the matter for six months. Once Grayson’s Constituent Advocate took on the case, the constituent received his refund from IRS in October of 2013.
- Veterans Affairs: Recently the President of VetserV wrote Grayson a letter stating, “VetserV would like to take a moment of your time to express our sincere appreciate and gratitude to [you] and your staff…Your Constituent Advocate has gone above and beyond in her efforts to help VetserV [veterans] with difficult pension cases at the Department of Veterans Affairs. It goes without saying that these deserving Americans, in their hour of need, are not being forgotten by our country or by the people in your office.”
- Visas: After struggling to obtain a visa for his wife, an Orange County constituent contacted Grayson’s office for assistance. Grayson’s office helped the constituent request a complete review of the application, and the visa was granted last week.
- Social Security: When a constituent’s sister experienced extended health problems, she contacted Grayson’s office for assistance in applying for disability benefits. Recently, the constituent contacted Grayson’s office with an update: her sister’s benefits have been approved. She praised Grayson’s constituent services staff and said, “You have no idea what a relief this will be.”
Grayson’s constituent services staff is prepared to help Central Floridians with a wide variety of issues related to the federal government at any of his office locations. Visit Grayson.House.Gov, or call 407-615-8889 for more information.
