Healthcare

Healthcare shouldn’t just be about treating diseases – it should be about curing and preventing them as well. We need a patient-centric system, where patients come before politics, affordable care doesn’t come at the cost of crippling our job creators, and we invest in innovation, not new layers of bureaucracy.

Prioritize medical research. I introduced bipartisan legislation to prioritize medical research and human clinical trials using stem cells that are ethically obtained and show evidence of providing near-term clinical benefit for patients suffering from breast cancer, Type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, Parkinson’s disease and more (Read H.R 2921).

Repeal and replace Obamacare. We need a market-based approach to making health insurance more accessible and affordable (Read H.R. 2300). We also need to:
  • Roll back the Affordable Care Act’s tax on health insurance providers, which is passed along to consumers (Read H.R. 928).
  • Roll back the Affordable Care Act’s tax on medical device manufacturers (Read H.R. 160).

Healthcare should be based on innovation, not bureaucracy
. I’m proud to be named “Champion of Healthcare Innovation” by the Healthcare Leadership Council, for my work to bring innovation to healthcare.

Improve the FDA drug approval process. The current FDA drug approval process is too bureaucratic. Our medical system will be successful when it’s driven by discovery, not regulations and red tape.

Reform the way physicians are reimbursed for services. I supported the repeal of the antiquated reimbursement formula for Medicare that threatened the ability of seniors and veterans to access quality physicians with devastating cuts each year (Read H.R. 2).

Find new ways to treat old diseases. We need to be encouraging the development of new medical treatments by repurposing existing drugs to address new ailments, conditions, or diseases like epilepsy, cancer, and post-traumatic stress. I introduced a bill to do just that (Read H.R.4287).

Keep local and rural pharmacies strong. As a Member of the Rural Healthcare Coalition, I’ve supported efforts to increase Medicare reimbursements for pharmacists working in rural and medically underserved areas (Read H.R. 592).
