FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 26, 2013

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) released the following statement on Congressional action regarding the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Today, the House took up and passed H.R. 1765, the Reducing Flight Delays Act, by a vote of 361-41.

“When the House passed the Budget Control Act in August of 2011, I opposed it as an unfair, unbalanced attack on working families and the most vulnerable in our communities. Almost two years later, the House has decided that, instead of solving sequestration responsibly, it is easier to grant flexibility to more politically palatable programs. When kids are kicked off Head Start, seniors lose access to Meals on Wheels, and hard-working defense and federal employees are being furloughed or fired, it is unacceptable to double down on bad policy while offering exemptions to select agencies. We must summon the courage and compassion to deal with sequestration as a whole and help those impacted by Congress’s inability to deal with our budget responsibly.”
