January 21, 2013
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (D-MD) issued the following statement to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, and celebrate the inauguration of President Barack Obama on January 21, 2013.
“There is no better way to commemorate the incredible life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., than by inaugurating Barack Obama to a second term as President of the United States. The 57th Inauguration will mark a significant moment in the history of the United States. As we celebrate a man who dedicated his life to racial, social, and economic justice for all in this nation, we will swear-in a president working to do the same.
“The next four years are an opportunity to embrace Dr. King’s message of equality, community service, and working together for the common good. We must once again look past those forces that divide us and focus on the fundamental principles that unite our nation.”
