Dear Friends,

As we gather around our tables this week surrounded by family and friends, we join in giving thanks. It is a time to pause and reflect upon our blessings, to share our good tidings with loved ones, and to lend a helping hand to our neighbors in need.

While it is easy to be generous during times of prosperity, the true spirit of Thanksgiving is found in the compassion of our communities during times of hardship throughout the year. As a member of Congress, I know that our values must also be reflected in our public policy toward seniors, children, veterans, and the most vulnerable.

I hope you will join me in finding ways to lend a hand to our neighbors during this holiday season. Earlier this week, I helped to serve seniors at the annual Thanksgiving Dinner sponsored by the 7th Councilmanic District Constituent Fund Committee and the men of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity in Seat Pleasant, MD (that's me with Prince George's County Councilwoman Mary Lehman). On Monday, I helped deliver Thanksgiving dinners to persons with life-threatening illness through Food & Friends. Please visit Feeding America or FoodPantries.org for local food banks in the area as these are a great way to give back to our communities.

We must also give thanks to our men and women in uniform, both here and abroad, who dedicate their lives to keeping us safe. It is only through their efforts that we can enjoy our freedoms as Americans on Thanksgiving Day. United We Serve can provide you with tools to help military families and veterans during this holiday season.

From my family to yours, I wish you a joyous and safe Thanksgiving holiday.

Sincerely,

Donna Edwards
