Rep. Edwards spoke on the House floor, requesting that the Republican Leadership return to complete the unfinished business of this Congress, including extending the middle class tax cuts, Violence Against Women Act, the Farm bill and passing the American Jobs Act and a comprehensive and balanced plan to prevent sequestration and responsibly reduce the deficit.

Yet Speaker Pro Tempore Steven C. LaTourette, under orders from Speaker Boehner, refused Democratic efforts to force House Republicans to get to work.  House Republicans recessed for seven weeks after only scheduling eight days of votes between August 3 and November 13.  This is the earliest Congress has recessed for an election in over 50 years.
