10/5/13
Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4), original cosponsor of H.R. 3223, the “Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act”, issued the following statement after the House passed the bill.  The final vote was 407-0.

“I am grateful that 124,000 furloughed federal workers in Maryland, and 800,000 workers across the country, will have some peace of mind that they will receive their back pay once this shutdown ends.   After three years of a pay freeze, and sequestration that forced many to take unpaid furloughs earlier this year, this legislation is a matter of fairness to ensure our federal workers receive the pay they deserve for all that they do for this country.

"But, let’s be clear, this reckless and unnecessary government shutdown was brought on by my Republican colleagues for purely ideological purposes, and our federal workers and economy are paying the price.

“Passing this legislation was an important step, but it is not enough. It is time to end the shutdown. Pass a clean funding bill, get it to the President, and get workers back on the job.”
