Opening Prayer

09/28/2016
Reverend Gene Hemrick

Lord of Mercy, since the beginning of time You have sustained us with Your heartfelt love and care, a love and care that bonds us in friendship with You, with each other and the world.
Lord, may You bless Congress with a loving heart, which, more than anything else, has power to touch and move humankind and renew friendly unity that is the crux of America's strength.
Amen.

Thought of the Week

“Prayer for the Election Season
(Isaiah 40:1, 28d, 31)

1 Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God.

Merciful God, Father of us all, our nation is engaged in a most contentious campaign. Relationships, even, are strained, and many despair of participating at all. Help us all in these days to believe that the strength of our democratic republic is a participative, civil, and responsible citizenship.

Bless those who are running for office. They are in great need of Your blessing. May they be their best selves, and through this process come to realize that it is our nation and its wellbeing that are in play, and that the benefit of all Americans must be their principle focus.

We trust that Your 28d knowledge is beyond scrutiny. We hope that You 31 will renew (our) strength, that (we) will soar (as a nation) on eagles’ wings; will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint.

Whatever the outcome, may we be secure in the knowledge that You will be with us always, and that our nation will continue to be a beacon of hope for all the world, and a nation committed to Your greater honor and glory.

AMEN
