A grant to build Florida’s largest clean room will be a boon to the local ‘High Tech Corridor’

WASHINGTON D.C. – Through a letter of support to the Secretary of Commerce, Congressman Alan Grayson (FL-09) helped secure $2.2 million in grant money from the Economic Development Administration Public Works Project. The award was announced this week.

“I am really excited about this local initiative to diversify the economy and foster high value job creation,” said Rep. Grayson.

The anticipated economic impact of building Florida’s largest high-tech clean room is creating 642 jobs, and leverages $52,500,000 in private investment according to the awarding agency.

Florida Advanced Manufacturing Research Center will make sensors using semiconductor material, requiring a sterile environment with no dust or static electricity. The project is guided by University of Central Florida in a private partnership with the firm ZHA along and many others.

This is not the first time Rep. Grayson has aided in securing funding for his district. With Grayson’s help, Orange County was awarded a $6.5 million federal grant in 2014 to fund up to 45 new firefighters. Spring 2015, the Congressman helped secure a $1.1M AGF grant for Orange County Fire Rescue. He also helped the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (better known as LYNX) secure a $9,390,860.00 federal grant through the Department of Transportation/Federal Transit Administration’s ‘Ladders of Opportunity’ initiative.

Rep. Grayson has made it a priority to increase the grants awarded to agencies, municipalities, and non-profit organizations in his district. He established a federal grants notification system, which provides constituents and local organizations with details about new grant opportunities under federal agencies.
