Washington, D.C. –  Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Members met with Secretary Tom Vilsack of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).  The meeting was held on Capitol Hill at the request of the Caucus.  The U.S. Department of Agriculture has enormous implications for the Latino community, including its administration of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), as well as the National School Lunch Program.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), comprising of House and Senate Latino Democrats, has called on Senate Republicans to expedite the confirmation votes for four Latino judicial nominees.

The U.S. Senate is tasked to confirm or deny any of President Barack Obama's judicial nominees, and throughout the year, four Latinos are still waiting for their confirmation vote dates.

A total of 19 U.S. Latino lawmakers sent a letter to Republican presidential hopeful - and Florida senator - Marco Rubio asking him to stop blocking confirmation of the assistant secretary of state for the Western Hemisphere, Roberta Jacobson, as ambassador to Mexico, congressional officials reported Monday.

The legislators emphasized the U.S. government's need to have a diplomatic representative in the capital of our southern neighbor as soon as possible, given that - after the exit of the man who had filled that post up until July, Tony Wayne - the post is vacant.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus in Washington on Friday called on Republican U.S. senators, including Johnny Isakson and David Perdue of Georgia, to stop blocking the nominations of four federal judicial nominees, including DeKalb County State Court Judge Dax Lopez.

 

Saying that Republicans "are playing politics" with the judicial system, Rep. Linda T. Sanchez , D-California, the caucus chairwoman, urged the swift confirmation of four Latinos whose nominations to federal benches have been pending for more than 120 days.
