WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement regarding the final passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act:

“Today the Senate passed bipartisan, comprehensive reform legislation that puts control of education back in the hands of those who know students best – like parents, teachers, and local school boards. In a victory for students and teachers, the Every Student Succeeds Act gives states, rather than the federal government, the authority to decide what standards will help their students achieve.
