Thune Statement on Passage of Bipartisan Every Student Succeeds Act

“Sending this long-overdue fix to No Child Left Behind to the president’s desk proves yet again that the Republican-led Senate is following through on its promise to the American people – a Senate that works.”

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement regarding the final passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act:

“Today the Senate passed bipartisan, comprehensive reform legislation that puts control of education back in the hands of those who know students best – like parents, teachers, and local school boards. In a victory for students and teachers, the Every Student Succeeds Act gives states, rather than the federal government, the authority to decide what standards will help their students achieve. Sending this long-overdue fix to No Child Left Behind to the president’s desk proves yet again that the Republican-led Senate is following through on its promise to the American people – a Senate that works.”
