Hartford rests along the historic Connecticut River.

The First Congressional District is arguably the most diverse region of Connecticut. Centered around Connecticut’s Capitol City, the first district includes twenty seven cities and towns in Hartford, Litchfield, and Middlesex Counties with over 700,000 residents.

No matter where you travel in the First District you’re guaranteed to witness a piece of New England history. The first three towns established in Connecticut reside in the First District, providing a look into the history of our state and nation. Whether you’re traveling through one of our many historic districts or visiting one of our renowned museums, you can’t leave the First District without learning about our deep history of innovation, manufacturing, business and education.

Today that legacy of innovation and manufacturing remains part of who we are. Manufacturing is part of our DNA, from the years of Sam and Elizabeth Colt sparking the industrial revolution in Hartford to our strong advanced manufacturing base today. As the perennial insurance capitol of the world, Connecticut also boasts a number of world leaders in the insurance industry, many based right here in the first district.
