Task Forces

21st Century Education, Immigration, and Workforce Task Force

Over the last decade, it has become increasingly clear that our immigration system is broken. Members of the business community, unions, faith leaders and the American public have called on Congress to pass a comprehensive immigration reform that not only brings the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants who live in our communities out of the shadows, but that also provides a realistic solution to stop unlawful immigration and create a fair and efficient immigration system.

21st Century Job Skills Working Group

In 2014, 20 New Dems launched a working group to develop next-generation solutions to close the skills gap and help every American find a high-quality job in a globally-competitive economy.

Energy

The transition to a clean energy future can serve as a catalyst for economic growth, innovation and entrepreneurship. These goals have always been guiding principles for the New Democrat Coalition.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Task Force

The strength of America’s economic machine is underpinned by the link between innovation, economic development and job creation. Since its founding, the New Democrat Coalition has led the way for smart policies that foster innovation through public-private partnerships, new technologies and cutting-edge research and development. As Congress considers the first reauthorization of the America COMPETES Act since 2010, the Coalition offers the following principles to ensure that we, as leaders tasked with maintaining America’s continued competitiveness in a 21st Century economy, don’t just talk about innovation – we invest in it.

Financial Services and Retirement Security

"The federal government would maintain a limited role to provide oversight, protect taxpayers against losses and ensure continued access to safe and affordable mortgage products, like the traditional 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage, according to the New Dem plan."

Health Care

As New Democrats, we are committed to the successful implementation of health care reforms that will expand access to and affordability of coverage, improve quality and delivery of care and slow the rate of growth in health care spending.

Tax Reform and Fiscal Responsibility

In the past 25 years, the global economy has become increasingly dynamic and interconnected. To help American businesses and workers succeed, our nation’s system of taxation needs to evolve to reflect the challenges facing modern businesses and opportunities for growth as well as address how individuals earn and utilize their income

Trade, Critical Infrastructure and Manufacturing

As New Democrats, we are committed to a strategy that strengthens, modernizes, protects, and maintains U.S. national infrastructure on the ground, in the sky, on the water, and in our cyber networks. In order to remain competitive in the global economy, improving domestic infrastructure is a sound strategy to promote growth and efficiency, support increased manufacturing, feed the American market and serve as an export platform for U.S. manufactured goods around the world. Our principles will serve as a foundation for a strategic direction for the Coalition on critical infrastructure and manufacturing.
