Gardner Urges the Revocation of Secretary Clinton’s Security Clearance

Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) today called for the revocation of Secretary Hillary Clinton’s security clearance following the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) announcement that it reopened its investigation into Secretary Clinton’s use of a private server while she was secretary of state.

Gardner and Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) previously introduced S. 3135, the Taking Responsibility Using Secured Technologies (TRUST) Act of 2016, legislation that would revoke Secretary Clinton’s security clearance as well as the security clearances of Secretary Clinton’s colleagues at the State Department who exhibited extreme carelessness in their handling of classified information. Additionally, the TRUST Act expresses the sense of Congress that Secretary Clinton should not have access to classified information again until she earns the legal right to such access. 

“Today’s announcement from the FBI must propel action to revoke Secretary Clinton’s access to classified information, as well as the security clearances of her senior staff who have proven to be cavalier with sensitive information,” said Gardner. “Secretary Clinton’s reckless use of a private email server was an open invitation to foreign hackers to access highly sensitive information. Therefore, Coloradans and Americans across the country have reason to mistrust Secretary Clinton with classified information, particularly in light of the FBI’s ongoing investigation.”
