Congress needs to pass the Zika funding bill instead of enjoying its seven-week vacation, says the Congressman

WASHINGTON D.C. – “My district was known as Mosquito County until the 20th century. Floridians all understand what a mosquito-borne illness can do to our Sunshine State.

“Just a few days ago, the first endemic cases of Zika in Florida were confirmed. Just a few days ago, Britain advised pregnant women not to visit Florida. The Zika virus threatens not only our health, but also our economy.

“Republican leadership has decided to go on summer vacation for seven weeks without voting on the Zika funding bill. So while they’re back in their districts begging their constituents to let them keep their jobs, more American children will be born with microcephaly; more seniors with health complications will be at risk; more time outdoors will be overshadowed with the fear of an impending epidemic.

“I call on Speaker Paul Ryan to do the right thing, end summer recess and pass funding for Zika prevention and research.”
