Under GOP, Senate Back to Work: Passes Thune’s Bipartisan FAA Bill

“This legislation does more to enhance security against the threat of terrorism and help frustrated passengers than any proposal in recent history.”

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, today applauded the Senate’s passage of his bipartisan Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2016, which makes important reforms to protect consumers and enhance airport security throughout the United States. The bill marks another significant, bipartisan achievement of the Republican-led Senate.

“This legislation does more to enhance security against the threat of terrorism and help frustrated passengers than any proposal in recent history,” said Thune. “We should not delay action on security enhancements in this bill or public safety benefits from the proper management of drones. The FAA bill answers these challenges while providing passengers with more options when airlines don’t deliver.”

“Republicans are working hard to pass significant legislation that improves the lives of Americans across the country. From a multi-year highway bill that creates jobs to education reform that empowers communities and now this bipartisan legislation that makes traveling safer, it’s clear that under Republicans, the Senate is back to work on behalf of the American people,” Thune said.

Thune is the lead sponsor of the FAA Reauthorization Act, which is now headed to the House of Representatives for consideration. Click here for more information on the legislation and here for more information on the Thune airport security measures that were included in the final bill.
