Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson is supporting the "Go Red For Women" movement to bring awareness to American Heart Month. We've made tremendous progress in the fight against heart disease in the 50 years since Congress first designated February as American Heart Month and in the 10 years since the American Heart Association launched Go Red For Women:
•In 1960, about 662,000 Americans died each year because of heart disease. In 2010, fewer than 600,000 Americans die each year, even despite the growth in our nation's population.
•Cumulatively, more than 627,000 women's lives have been saved from heart disease since Go Red For Women was created in 2004.
