Victory for American Energy Independence
Sep 26 2008U.S. House of Representatives Lifts Ban on Offshore and Oil Shale Drilling Washington, Sep 26, 2008 - This week marks a historic victory for Americans seeking energy independence. For the first time in more than twenty years, Congress has allowed the ban on offshore and oil shale exploration to expire. Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) released the following statement in regards to this energy victory: “House Republicans scored a major victory on behalf of the American people, forcing an end to bans on offshore and oil shale American energy exploration. This did not happen by accident. House Republicans have stood up and fought for the millions of Americans suffering under the crushing burden of skyrocketing gas prices while the do-nothing Democrats who control both houses of Congress took a walk. Though we never received an up or down vote on an all-of-the above energy plan, this is a step in the right direction.”--Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) This fight is not over. Amid this market turmoil, spiking gas prices and the coming winter heating bills, House Republicans are renewing their commitment to an all-of-the-above energy strategy – more conservation, more renewables and alternatives, and more production of American-made energy – encompassed in the H.R. 6566, the American Energy Act.
