Washington, Jun 12, 2008 -  Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s Boumediene vs. Bush decision:

“As Justice Scalia noted, this is an unprecedented decision to afford a constitutional right of habeas corpus to alien enemies detained abroad by our military forces in the course of the Global War on Jihadist Terrorism.  This creates serious problems with the possible intelligence sources in open court and the release of terrorists bent on killing Americans.”—Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

Congressman Lamborn will be visiting Guantanamo Bay tomorrow to investigate the conditions of the detention facilities and investigate the security and legal issues surrounding possible changes in detainee status.  Currently Guantanamo Bay houses nearly 300 detainees, including many with terrorist ties.
