LAMBORN PLAYS KEY ROLE IN STRENGTHENING MISSILE DEFENSE FORCES

Washington, Oct 1, 2008 -

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05), co-chair of the House Missile Defense Caucus, today announced a significant boost to the Colorado Springs-based Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center, also known as MDIOC.

I am pleased to announce that the center will be getting an additional $10 million in fiscal year 2009 to improve its missile defense modeling and simulation program. This money will help the military plan and prepare for missile attacks.

“With instability in Eastern Europe and the ongoing threat of missile attacks from rogue nations such as Iran, it is important the United States have the best missile defense systems possible. This additional funding for MDIOC will go a long way toward protecting our nation from outside threats.

“I specifically requested this money for our nation’s missile defense program because I know it is vital to protecting our citizens.” -- Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

The MDIOC is a critical national resource providing a unique, robust and technically advanced infrastructure to support a broad range of missile defense programs.   Missile defense programs within the MDIOC are spearheading the development, integration and operations support of all system-level aspects of the nation’s Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS).

The MDIOC has operated at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado for 20 years and has grown substantially in capability and importance to the missile defense community. It began as a premier modeling and simulation center for both Homeland and International missile defense applications, and although it continues those roles, the mission areas now supported at the center extend to all aspects of the missile defense acquisition process, today even including vital operational support to the missile defense warfighters.
