LAMBORN CELEBRATES ENERGY FREEDOM DAY

Washington, Oct 1, 2008 -

In light of American Energy Freedom Day, Congressman Lamborn (CO-05) issued the following statement:

“Today we are one step closer to energy independence as the outdated ban on drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) and on oil shale exploration in the West has expired. Republicans have held on with tenacity in the push for American energy independence and Democrats have finally listened.

“Much remains to be done in order to secure the vast amount of energy located off our shores. We must, in an environmentally sound way, begin to access the nearly 18 billion barrels of oil and 55 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in the once restricted areas.

“Now more than ever, as the swelling price of energy continues to affect our budgets, we must also look not just to our shores, but to a truly comprehensive 'all-of- the-above' energy strategy that encompasses all areas and technologies—oil shale, coal-to-liquid, nuclear, solar, wind, hydrogen, and energy in ANWR.

“I continue to call on the Majority to schedule a vote on H.R. 6566, The American Energy Act, which allows for an 'all-of-the-above' energy plan.”—Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
