Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER:  PRESIDENT OBAMA’S IMMIGRATION ACTION SETS DANGEROUS PRECEDENT
Co-Sponsors Legislation to Prevent Current and Future Acts of Executive Overreach

WASHINGTON – This morning, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) addressed the U.S. House of Representatives in support of H.R. 5759, the Preventing Executive Overreach on Immigration Act, which Congressman Pittenger co-sponsored.

“Every American should be concerned by the President’s unconstitutional grab of power.  If the President can change this law, what prevents him from this abuse of power in other policies?

“This is not the only action the House will take to restrict the overreach of the President, and I am committed to continuing our efforts in the coming weeks and into the next session of Congress.”

H.R. 5759 upholds Constitutional provisions stating that Congress establishes Naturalization laws while the President “shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.”  H.R. 5759 applies to both current and future Executive Actions, preventing future Presidents (Republican or Democrat) from bypassing the Constitution via executive action.

H.R. 5759 passed the U.S. House of Representatives with a bipartisan majority of 219-197.
