Job Fair 2013
"My mother posted a flier of Congresswoman Sewell’s job fair on my facebook wall, and a friend called me to encourage me to go as well. I had just started working a part time job while finishing up school at UWA. I was putting in resume after resume and I had no luck, but I still had faith that something would come through for me. My good friend and I traveled to Selma with enthusiasm and great intentions, especially when we heard that they were hiring on the spot! There were many different employers, and I gave them my resume; they also told me that I was dressed for success! I finally walked up to Orchard’s table, and it was crowded so I said that I would come back. After socializing with different people, I decided to make another round. I came across Orchard’s table one last time, and I greeted the Administrator. I asked did they have any career opportunities available at this present time, and they did! Thank GOD I did come back around that last time, because I had an interview right on spot. I was called back for a 2nd interview, toured the facility, and met some of the residents. I completed my degree in the beginning of August 2013, and started my job at the end of August 2013. I am happy to tell you that I received a phone call two weeks later with a job offer for a Social Service Director position at Orchard Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center! I am thankful and overjoyed that I was blessed with an opportunity to better myself and my family. I would like to extend my gratitude to Representative Terri Sewell and her awesome staff for putting the Job Fair together because if it wasn’t for them and God’s grace this opportunity would’ve passed me by." - Monique
