Environment & Energy
We must protect our environment and push towards energy independence so we can make sure it stays that Central New York remains the best place in the world to live, work, and raise a family.
- Energy Independence
To move toward energy independence, we must reduce our dependence on foreign oil and invest in solutions that move America to a renewable clean energy economy. In Central New York, we have universities, companies and public-private partnerships, like the Center for Excellence, that are at the forefront of clean, sustainable and renewable energy research and development that can help reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions. We need to promote and encourage investment in research and development that supports these growing local industries which are creating new jobs in our region.
- Hydrofracking
We cannot have an honest conversation about hydrofracking until we know what chemicals are being pumped into the ground and what the effects on local watersheds will be. I strongly support appropriate regulation for hydrofracking. Furthermore, I support maintaining the state moratorium on fracking at least until it is included under the Clean Water Act.
