Education

Education is the backbone of a strong economy and a thriving middle class. Central New York is the best place in the world to live, work, and raise a family, but in order to keep it that way we must have the workforce and talent to help grow our middle class and spur the local economy.
 
Throughout 2013, I held numerous roundtable discussions with teachers, administrators, and students from all four counties throughout the 24th Congressional district to listen to their concerns and ideas about ways to improve education in Central New York. In September 2013, I sent a survey to hundreds of educators to solicit their input on ways to strengthen K-12 education. The survey encouraged local educators to provide feedback about the challenges they face and help identify solutions. 
 
As a result of the feedback I received, I created a plan to strengthen education and provide students in Central New York with the tools they need to succeed. My education plan identifies six keys to success: providing support and reasonable timelines for educators, community support and involvement, investing in Pre-K, investments in school infrastructure to support curriculum, career track and vocational training, and making higher education affordable. My plan includes policy recommendations for achieving these goals and strengthening education across Central New York.
