Supporting the Arts

Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY) and Rep. Leonard Lance (R-NJ) are co-chairs of the Congressional Arts Caucus, a bipartisan organization for Members of Congress who support the arts through federal initiatives. Currently, the Caucus includes 186 Members of the House of Representatives.

Each year, the Arts Caucus' major objective is to secure adequate funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Institute for Museums and Library Services (IMLS).

Members participate in press conferences, testify before key committees, speak on the House floor and participate in the events of Arts Advocacy Day in order to promote the positive educational and economic impact of the arts. Most importantly, members of the Arts Caucus personally advocate to other Members of Congress in order to maintain federal funding of the arts.
