Fortenberry Statement on President's Anticipated Executive Order on Immigration

Lincoln, NE – Representative Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) today issued the following statement on President Obama’s expected executive order on immigration:

“President Obama’s plan for executive amnesty is divisive and abusive of his power. It is unacceptable, unreasonable, and unnecessary. The President’s Constitutional duty is to ‘faithfully’ execute the law, not recklessly abrogate the law.

“The President has said multiple times that he has no authority to take this action. When asked about executive action earlier, he said: ‘I am president, I am not king. I can’t do these things just by myself.’

“The House must now work to keep the government running while shutting down this action of the President. Sadly, the question is now no longer about proper immigration policy and reasoned debate — it’s about the President abusing his authority. This action is grossly unfair to persons seeking to legally enter our country, and it may also create another wave of persons coming over the border.

“If this last election was about any one thing, it was about the American people saying we should work together toward constructive solutions. No more divisiveness.”

Fortenberry also released a short video with comments on the expected executive order:
