Luján to Visit Valle Vidal to Participate in ‘Great Outdoors Week' Tomorrow

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Santa Fe, NM – Congressman Ben Ray Luján will visit Valle Vidal in the Carson National Forest tomorrow, Wednesday, August 24, to participate in “Great Outdoors Week.”  During Great Outdoors Week, which runs from August 20 until August 28, recreation and sportsmen’s groups from across the country celebrate our public lands and the opportunities they provide for our communities.  New Mexico’s Great Outdoors Week will recognize the recreational, environmental, and economic values of public lands.

“I look forward to celebrating Great Outdoors Week with New Mexico’s sportsmen and enjoying the beautiful public lands that the Land of Enchantment has to offer,” Congressman Luján said.  “Great Outdoors Week serves not only as an opportunity to explore our public lands, but it is also a reminder of the economic opportunities that arise as a result of protecting and preserving the natural landscape and the heritage of our great state.  From fishing to hunting, from biking to horseback riding, our forests and public lands have sustained communities and provided recreational opportunities for the people of New Mexico and the many visitors who come from far and wide to experience all that our public lands have to offer.”

Luján’s visit to Valle Vidal will give him an opportunity to meet with New Mexicans who rely on the economic opportunities created by recreational activities on public lands.  Outdoor recreation activities on public lands are an integral part of New Mexico’s economy, supporting 47,000 jobs across the state and generating $3.8 billion in economic activity.
