Veterans

Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to veterans and military retirees who sacrificed to protect our freedom.

I am committed to bringing quality health care to the veterans of Southwest Louisiana.  My staff and I have been tirelessly working to bring a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) to Lake Charles and to upgrade the existing Lafayette CBOC.

Access to quality health care is critical for veterans in our region, and the new Lake Charles clinic is a demonstration of our commitment to them.  Veterans in rural communities are often at a disadvantage in receiving care because of the distance to VA clinics and this new clinic will further the access that many veterans in and around Calcasieu Parish need so badly.

According to Alexandria Medical Center Director Gracie Specks, the Lake Charles CBOC “will be operational in mid-2011 if an existing facility is available or not until FY 2012 if a new facility must be constructed.” As for the Lafayette CBOC, pre-solicitation advertisements should be announced in early 2011.

I will continue to work with the VA to help ensure the process moves forward quickly.  Be assured, this is a high priority for me and I will work with the veterans community to make these health-care facilities a reality.

I am always eager to hear from my constituents.  If you are in need of help regarding veterans’ casework, please contact my Lake Charles office at 337-433-1747 or my Lafayette office at 337-235-6322.  If you would like to speak with my staff about legislation impacting veterans, please contact Washington, D.C. office at 202-225-2031.
