Guthrie Supports American Jobs Package

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Congressman Brett Guthrie voted in support of H.R. 4, the Jobs for America Act, a compilation of bills aimed to spur job growth and increase wages.  Many of the provisions included in the Jobs for America Act were also included in Congressman Guthrie’s REBUILD Act, which was introduced in 2013 with a goal of jumpstarting the nation’s manufacturing sector.

“House Republicans have been committed to growing our economy and creating jobs,” said Congressman Guthrie.  “To date, we have sent more than 350 bills to the Senate, nearly all of which had bipartisan support and a focus on promoting economic growth.  Today, we are still waiting.”

The Jobs for America package includes critical provisions that repeal some of the most devastating provisions in Obamacare: the Save American Workers Act which repeals the 30-hour definition of full time employment and the Protect Medical Innovation Act, which repeals the medical device tax.

Also included in the Jobs package is legislation focusing on job creation, small businesses and the manufacturing sector.  The bill makes permanent several tax provisions for small businesses and makes the R&D tax credit permanent, which supports research and development jobs here in the United States.

“Repealing burdensome mandates from Obamacare and granting job creators certainty to invest in American jobs are critical to growing our economy,” said Congressman Guthrie.

The package also includes the Regulations from the Executive In Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, which would require any rule or regulation with an economic impact valued at $100 million or more to come for a vote in the House before taking effect.

“I recently asked Kentuckians about this very issue in my 2014 Congressional Survey and so far, I have heard a very clear answer.  Seventy-nine percent of respondents said that major regulations proposed by a federal agency should come before Congress for approval if they will pose substantial costs on the American people and our economy.  I’m proud to support this measure once again,” added Congressman Guthrie.
