New Runway at O'Hare International Airport

I wanted to make my constituents aware that a new runway will be opening at O'Hare International Airport. The City of Chicago and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expect to commission the new runway, 10C/28C, on October 17, 2013. While the new runway will not immediately increase traffic at the airport, it is part of a larger plan to increase capacity and efficiency at O'Hare. To that end, the opening of the new runway will result in traffic patterns different from what residents currently experience.

Please see the attached official links for more information:

As you know, the O'Hare Airport Modernization Program and runway construction and reconfiguration is ongoing, and impacts many people in the 9th Congressional District. I, along with Congressman Mike Quigley of the neighboring 5th Congressional District, am committed to doing everything I can to protect the communities surrounding O'Hare Airport from adverse impacts of air traffic and will continue to advocate for quieter aircraft, better technology to reduce noise impacts on the community, and soundproofing of homes, schools, and businesses dealing with high levels of airport noise.

I have introduced legislation in November 2010 calling for continued FAA collaboration with U.S. airports to reduce noise pollution. I also am a strong supporter of sound insulation of residents and schools in my district and have met directly with the FAA Regional Administrator Barry Cooper and Chicago Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino multiple times to voice the concerns of my constituents about the impact of the airport on them. I, along with my staff, will continue to stay on top of what's going on at O'Hare Airport and keep you posted.

For any questions about this new runway, please contact my Suburban Director Ann Limjoco at (847) 328-3409.
