McAllister Selects Students to Intern in DC Office
06/19/14Kyla Winey, Spencer Perkins, and Chris Parri Participate in McAllister’s Congressional Internship Program
WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister (R-Swartz) is pleased to announce that Kyla Winey, Spencer Perkins, and Chris Parri have joined his DC team for part of the summer.
Working in McAllister’s DC office, Winey, Perkins, and Parri handle a wide variety of tasks, such as assisting with legislative research, drafting constituent letters and briefing materials, as well as helping staff members with constituent services.
“This internship is a great opportunity for young people to gain insight into how our federal government operates on a day-to-day basis,”said McAllister. Kyla, Spencer, and Chris have been great assets to my Washington office. My staff and I are very grateful to have them on board.”
Kyla Winey, a Lafayette native, is the daughter of Kenneth and Laura Winey. She is a student at Northwestern State University pursuing a major in Mass Communication and a minor in English. After graduating, Winey plans to pursue a career in Public Relations.
When asked what she thought of interning for McAllister, Winey responded, “So far my experience in Congressman McAllister’s Office has been very invaluable and helpful with my career choices. I’ve gotten the opportunity to network with some exceptional individuals and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my state at this level.”
Spencer Perkins, is the son of Scott and Dawn Perkins. He is a student at University of Louisiana at Monroe studying risk management. Following college graduation, he plans to attend graduate school and open his own firm.
Perkins noted, “This internship has been much more than I imagined it to be. In the aspect of political knowledge, I have grasped a much more thorough perspective on how legislation works and how it affects my daily life as a citizen. I am fortunate that I was able to intern in an office with such a friendly staff who helped above and beyond with anything I needed.”
Chris Parri is a recent graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder where he earned a degree in political science. He is the son of Lou Parri and Judy Baumgardner. Upon conclusion of his internship, he would like to get involved in a political campaign and possibly further his education by attending graduate school.
Parri states, “I’ve learned a lot about the day-to-day routine of Congress and have been able to explore Capitol Hill and meet great people.”
U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister, R-Swartz, represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Agriculture.
