McAllister Praises House Passage of Bill to Block EPA's Attack on American Agriculture

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, Congressman VanceMcAllister  issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5078, the Waters of the United States Regulatory Overreach Protection Act, by a vote of 262-152. This legislation prohibits the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Army Corps of Engineers from finalizing and enforcing a proposed rule that would redefine "waters of the United States" under the Clean Water Act, or using the rule as a basis for future administrative actions. It is the authority of Congress, not the administration, to change the scope of the Clean Water Act.

“I was proud to take action and vote in favor of this bipartisan bill that would prevent the EPA and Corps of Engineers from implementing this proposed rule, thereby avoiding more costly and time consuming permits for private land owners. Federal agencies that impose these burdensome regulations on hardworking Americans must be fought against. The EPA has a lack of understanding of how detrimental its actions can be on America’s agriculture industry. This prevents a drastic water and land grab by the federal government and will restore property rights and jurisdiction to land owners and local governments,” said McAllister.

U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister, R-Swartz, represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Agriculture.
