McAllister Encourages Louisiana Residents to Prepare in Advance for Hurricane Season

North Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins June 1

WASHINGTON, D.C.– With hurricane season officially being upon us, I would like to encourage Louisiana residents to take safety measures and plan in advance before a disaster is on the horizon. History proves that hurricane awareness and preparedness can help reduce the impact of Mother Nature’s storms.

I encourage families, communities and businesses to prepare before a disaster is underway. You can help those in your area by showing your commitment to weather-readiness and by knowing the risk, taking action and being an example.

Here’s what you can do to lead:

Know your risk:The first step in taking needed precaution is to understand how hurricanes can affect where you live and work, and how the weather could impact you and your family. When you understand your risk, you are more apt to know how to prepare. Check the weather forecast regularly and sign up for local alerts from emergency management officials.

Take action:Develop an emergency plan based on your local hurricane, severe storms and flooding hazards and practice how and where you will evacuate if instructed by your emergency management officials.

Be an Example:Once you have taken action, share your plan with your family and friends.

As a representative of a state that is consistently battered by devastating natural disasters, it is my duty to ensure progress is made toward expediting the recovery process, and that our citizens are prepared.
